Carolyn Parfitt

With her special interest in the vital role that families play in helping and/or hindering our happiness in life, Carolyn is optimistic about the great potential that psychotherapy and counselling have to repair any damage. She feels privileged to work with people at difficult turning points in their lives, assisting them to unlock unhelpful patterns. The aim of her work is always to support them to find their own strength and solutions.
Carolyn works with couples as well as individuals. New parents are of particular interest to her because she believes becoming a parent is one of the most difficult points in life to negotiate. It’s also an excellent time for couples to work on improving their relationship, and thereby making a positive investment in their children’s development and in their future lives as a family.

Approach
Carolyn uses a range of psychotherapeutic modalities – “talking cures” – combined with sandplay therapy for those clients who are interested in this supplement to talking. Sandplay involves placing small objects in a sandtray. A Jungian-based therapy that provides a way into the unconscious, it is appropriate for use with adults as well as children.
As well as seeing clients at Therapeutic Axis in Glebe, Carolyn is the Relationships Writer for the national monthly magazine, Notebook: where she responds to readers’ questions about dealing with difficult transitions in their lives.
