Along our path in life, many of us experience trying times. Challenges and difficulties may be greater than usual, or our ways of dealing with them don’t seem to work well anymore. Perhaps you have experienced a crisis or life event which is hard to cope with on your own. These are times when professional counselling can be a sound investment.
The counsellors, psychologists and psychotherapists at Therapeutic Axis are committed to working in partnership with individuals, couples and families seeking solutions and change. In a non-judgmental, understanding and empathic environment, people are able to explore issues and life situations in a way that promotes healing and clarity within themselves and their lives. When this happens, their vision is clearer, they have more choices and they are on the way to fulfilling their full potential.
How It Works
Generally, the process involves an individual, a couple or a family sitting down with a counsellor and talking about yourself—what your situation is, how you feel, what you think. What you say is private and confidential and you are in control of what you disclose. Some people want counselling for specific problems, and only a few sessions may be required. Other people find that the current issue is representative of many issues in their lives, and want to look deeper. This is the focus of psychotherapy, which may carry on for a longer period. It is important to note that youare in control of the process: how often, how much, and how specific or general.
Working Together
The counsellor is there to support you as you move through important decisions in your life. The result is that these decisions are made with an overview of the full landscape of your life, which helps ensure they are personally correct for you. The counsellor is there to keep the process productive and to provide objectivity: to highlight aspects you may not have considered, and to illuminate choices. It is up to you to consider the options and make the choices.
How Often
Weekly one-hour sessions are typical, though this is flexible.
The number of sessions depends greatly on what you want to achieve and how you and your counsellor choose to work together.
